Scholarship
This semester, the house has concentrated its focus on academics. As the scholarship committee chair, I am proud of the effort that I have seen from each member. We are certainly on our way to meeting our semester goal of a chapter GPA above a 3.0 with no member having a GPA below a 2.0. Look for recognition next semester of Kappa Alpha among the fraternities at MS&T leading the way in scholarship.
Goals
- House mid-term GPA 3.00.
- House semester GPA 3.00.
- Top 3 house semester GPA among fraternities.
- No member below a 2.0.
Imposed Rules
- Quiet hours Sunday 12:00pm until Friday 12:00pm with exception to 4:00pm to 5:00pm each day.
- Every member shall attend every class no matter what his previous semester GPA.
- Class schedules for every member shall be posted on members’ doors.
- Any member below a 3.0 GPA shall attend Academic Review at the start of every quarter and be placed on social probation and video game probation during the week.
- Any member below a 2.7 GPA shall be placed on two mandatory study hours.
- Any member below a 2.25 GPA shall be placed on four mandatory study hours.
- All freshmen shall be placed on social probation and video game probation during the week.
- Freshmen above a 3.5 GPA shall be placed on two mandatory study hours.
- Freshmen below a 3.5 GPA shall be placed on four mandatory study hours.
- Any member who is placed on mandatory study hours shall keep a study log and have it signed every Thursday by their Academic Football League Team Captain.
Small Programs
- Quarterly Academic Reviews
- Brotherly accountability/ early detection
- Common test study groups tutored by older brother.
- III’s room to be accessible as a study room (desks, white boards, etc.)
- Common classes’ “gold files” (MST academic regulations permit use of files)
