Greek
Week:
Greek Week
is a celebration of the Greek community through a week of games and competition
with other Greek houses. The week is filled with numerous events like the
all Greek barbeque, an annual carnival, and the "Mount Olympus"
Greek Games. The games are especially popular because they provide a
spotlight for the talents of the many Greek organizations through competitions
that include the chariot race, football, horse shoes, mud wrestling, and a
"Best Banner" competition. Excelling in these games is always a
goal of Kappa Alpha Order, which is why we are consistently one of the top
ranking houses.
Greek
Sing:
Greek Sing
is an annual battle of the bands here at MS&T. Each fraternity and
sorority enters a band into the competition and the bands compete to determine
who is the best.
St. Pats:
Each year
at MS&T, students produce the largest St. Patrick's Day celebration in the
nation. This is a week long extravaganza Students, alumni, townspeople,
and thousands of visitors take part in the all the excitement. Kappa
Alpha always takes an active role in the week's festivities. In 2005, we
placed second overall and took first place in the "Float Design"
competition for the annual St. Pat's parade. This year we ended up taking
first place overall, and second place in the cudgel carving contest.
Old
South Ball:
Our Order is dedicated to the ideals of
chivalry and the honor of women as were the Knights of old and the Gentlemen of
the antebellum South. This is what the brothers of Beta Alpha chapter celebrate
during our Old South week, which takes place in the Fall. Some of the week's
events include a hot tub on our veranda, a hayride, a pig roast, movie night,
and finally, the Old South Ball, held at the Lake of the
Ozarks. The brothers adorn themselves in their best attire, and
they and their dates dance the night away as the Southern tradition lives on in
all its glory.
"There was a land of Cavaliers and cotton
fields called the
old South...
Here in this
patrician would the Age of
Chivalry take its
last bow...
Here was the last
ever to be seen of Knights
and Ladies Fair,
Look for it only in
books, for it in no more
than a dream
remembered, a
civilization gone
with the wind..."
